Kalpa Introduction
Kalpa: Mythic Hero Defense throws you into an action-packed tower-defense saga based on Indian mythology. In the game, the divine World‑Tree “Kalpa”—the final stronghold against darkness—needs to be protected from surging Asura demonic hordes. You call upon iconic heroes such as Bali, Sugriva, Arjuna, and more, each filled with mythological abilities and breathtaking visuals. By tactical positioning, epic ultimates, and magical equipment, you’ll shape your strategies with each combat. Godly blessings enhance your defenses, providing rich gameplay evolution and lore-oriented storytelling.
Studio Sirah specializes in combining deep mythological settings with compelling strategic gameplay. With Kalpa, they have designed a colorful, culturally themed tower-defense game for mythology buffs and strategy players alike.
Studio Sirah, located in Bengaluru, India, is the development team behind Kalpa, and had worked on Kurukshetra: Ascension earlier.

Kalpa Gameplay
Kalpa: Mythic Hero Defense is a fun and visually satisfying tower defense game based in Indian mythology. The game itself is simple to learn but full of strategic complexity, so both casual and experienced players will love it. Seeing a tightly grouped horde destroyed by an AoE ultimate ability is particularly satisfying, and the starting heroes have well-designed abilities that feel impactful and refined.
But the following heroes are a little disconnected in design and execution—their ultimates and abilities are not quite as fine-tuned or cohesive as before. Furthermore, though the game plays well early on, after level 23 performance problems begin to manifest themselves, with lag spikes and missing visuals or asset glitches on occasion, which shatter immersion. Even with these flaws, Kalpa still checks all the right boxes for an excellent tower defense game—it’s accessible, enjoyable, and packed with moments of mythic drama.
Kalpa FTUE
Kalpa: Mythic Hero Defense does an excellent job of teaching new players its mechanics with a well-paced and smooth FTUE. Central ideas like neutral power-ups, tower placement, hero upgrades, and ultimate abilities are all described clearly and in a straightforward manner so that players are not overwhelmed at the beginning.
What really makes Kalpa stand out is the empowering nature of the early game—two solid and visually striking heroes are placed in players’ hands from the very beginning, which breeds confidence and instills an instant feeling of fun. Such considerate onboarding makes the game extremely accessible, even for beginners to the tower defense genre.

Kalpa Monetization
While Kalpa’s monetization system isn’t its best feature yet and still has the feel of something in development, it never comes across as greedy or pushy. The game does provide generous, free daily offers, as well as rewards players simply for playing—through daily login rewards, missions, and straightforward gameplay sessions.
The hero upgrade system is very Clash Royale-esque, employing upgrade points that are bought with the game’s standard (non-premium) currency. This currency is simple to accumulate through daily and weekly missions, so gameplay feels fair and accessible without requiring the spending of real money. Generally speaking, Kalpa finds a player-friendly equilibrium that rewards both interacting with its systems and playing the game.
Kalpa Visuals and Sound
Kalpa: Mythic Hero Defense is a visually rich experience with well-designed heroes and enemies. The visual art direction is colorful and stylized, and Indian mythology is brought to life in a grand way. One of the best details is how the game world represents damage—the Kalpa tree getting weakened makes the map increasingly pale and less beautiful, visually enhancing the pressure of the battle.
But not all of it is an ideal shot. Duryodhana’s look feels dull and lacking in his legendary persona. Without the tag, he would easily be confused for a regular Rakshasa foe. His look doesn’t have the uniqueness and gravitas of an important mythological figure such as himself, and he thus comes across as an afterthought.
Otherwise, the rest of the characters and sound effects are properly executed. Hero ultimates, enemy waves, and background music all contribute to the game’s immersion and mythic feel.

Kalpa Strengths and Weaknesses
Pros:
- Engaging Gameplay – Satisfying tower defense with impactful AoE moments and strong tactical depth.
- Strong FTUE – Clear tutorials and powerful starting heroes make it welcoming for new players.
- Fair Monetization – Generous free rewards and easy-to-earn in-game currency; no paywall pressure.
- Beautiful Visuals – Excellent hero/enemy designs, dynamic map effects, and clean UI.
- Immersive Theme – Rich mythological backdrop with creative use of lore.
Cons:
- Later Heroes Feel Rushed – Newer hero ultimates lack polish and synergy.
- Performance Issues – Lag and missing assets occur in later stages (after level 23).
- Duryodhana’s Design – Visually underwhelming; doesn’t stand out as a major mythic character.
- Monetization Still Maturing – Some aspects feel unpolished or experimental.
Conclusion
Kalpa: Mythic Hero Defense is a welcome and culturally diverse addition to the tower defense genre. With its fun gameplay, accessible mechanics, and visually engaging world based on Indian mythology, it has fun and substance. The early game is polished and rewarding, backed by a reasonable monetization model and excellent onboarding.
Where some hero designs—such as Duryodhana’s—and later-stage performance issues indicate what can be improved on, they do not balance out the game’s numerous virtues. For strategy, myth, or mobile defense game fans, Kalpa is very much worth playing—and viewing as it continues to develop.
